Ex-PH ambassador to Brazil seeks review of dismissal
Ex-PH Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro who was recently dismissed from post after caught maltreating an aide now seeks the Court of Appeals (CA) to review her dismissal after the Brazilian government conducted an administrative proceeding regarding her actions.
In the late October last year, a CCTV footage where ex-ambassador Mauro was seen assaulting her 51-year-old Filipina helper inside the diplomatic residence. She was seen slapping the Filipina aide but refrained when somebody entered the house. In another footage, she was also seen pulling the helper’s hair and hitting her with an umbrella. Her actions made headlines last November after Brazil’s Globo News exposed her doings. The Filipina aide has been working with her family for 34 years.

In an interview, Mauro claimed that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) committed deficiencies in handling her case since the DFA totally disregarded the documentary evidence she submitted. She also claimed that the agency was pressured to recommend her dismissal.
Mauro’s dismissal would mean that she will lose all her retirement benefits and her opportunity to hold a public post.
“I am deeply remorseful of my behavior. I deeply regret it. Naging biktima rin ako ng (I was also a victim of the) COVID lockdown. I was under tremendous mental and emotional stress,” she said.
President Rorigo R. Duterte approved the DFA’s decision to dismiss her on March 1,2021.She served the DFA for 26 years.
